Throughout history, humanity has looked to the heavens for signs and omens. As Jesus himself proclaimed in Luke 21:25-26: "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken." Celestial events have often been interpreted as harbingers of great change, warnings of divine judgment, or confirmations of biblical prophecy. One of the latest cosmic developments—the discovery of asteroid 2024 YR4—has reignited discussions about whether such events align with end-time prophecies foretold in Scripture. Could this asteroid be another indicator that we are approaching the final stages of human history as we know it?
A Newly Discovered Asteroid with a Potential Impact Date
On December 25, 2024, asteroid 2024 YR4 passed within approximately 500,000 miles of Earth, roughly twice the distance to the Moon (Space, 2025). It was discovered just two days later by astronomers in Chile, and its trajectory has been under close observation since then. The asteroid, estimated to be between 130 and 330 feet (40 to 100 meters) in diameter, is currently moving away from Earth, making further observations more difficult in the coming months.
While the probability of impact currently stands at about 1%, scientists emphasize that there is a 99% chance it will miss our planet (Newsweek, 2025). However, its potential collision date—December 22, 2032—raises intriguing questions. Scientists are now examining older sky surveys, particularly from 2016, when the asteroid is also predicted to have passed close to Earth (NASA, 2025). Locating the asteroid in these earlier images could allow for more precise trajectory calculations and determine the likelihood of an impact in 2032. If 2024 YR4 is not detected in previous images, its impact probability will be gradually updated as new data is collected.
This asteroid currently tops the European Space Agency's risk list, as objects of this size impact Earth roughly every few thousand years and can cause significant damage (Dixit, 2025). The potential consequences of such an event fuel discussions about its prophetic significance. Could this be one of the celestial events foreshadowed in biblical prophecy? Does the timing of this asteroid fit within the timeline of end-time judgments?
Asteroids and Biblical Prophecy
The Book of Revelation contains descriptions of catastrophic celestial events that many interpret as asteroid impacts or similar cosmic phenomena. Revelation 8:8-9 states: "The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea. So a third of the sea became blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed." This passage describes what appears to be a massive object from space impacting the Earth, resulting in catastrophic consequences.
Another passage from Revelation 6:13 states: "The stars of heaven fell to the earth as a fig tree drops its unripe figs when shaken by a high wind." Could these verses be describing the effects of asteroids, such as 2024 YR4 or Apophis, which is set to pass dangerously close to Earth in 2029?
Apophis and the Tribulation
Asteroid Apophis, which is approximately 1,100 feet wide, is set to make a near-Earth pass on April 13, 2029. As discussed in a previous article, this date falls exactly 3.5 years after the Feast of Tabernacles in 2025, a timeframe that aligns with the midpoint of the prophesied seven-year Tribulation period. If the Tribulation were to begin in 2025, Apophis could be the catastrophic event that marks the intensification of divine judgments upon the Earth.
The fact that Apophis passes so close to Earth at this specific time should not be dismissed as mere coincidence. In biblical prophecy, the halfway mark of the Tribulation is a moment of extreme significance, as it is the period when the Antichrist commits the Abomination of Desolation (Daniel 9:27), Satan is cast down to Earth in full wrath (Revelation 12:7-9), and the world plunges into its darkest days. Could the near-Earth flyby of Apophis be a divine warning of these impending events?
The Significance of December 22, 2032
Now, with the discovery of asteroid 2024 YR4 and its projected impact date of December 22, 2032, another thought-provoking pattern emerges. If the Tribulation begins in 2025 and reaches its midpoint with Apophis in 2029, then 2032 would mark the very end of the seven-year Tribulation. This is precisely when Scripture describes the return of Jesus Christ to establish His millennial reign (Revelation 19:11-16).
Could asteroid 2024 YR4 be part of the final judgments upon the Earth? If it were to impact the planet, it could fulfill the prophecies of devastating celestial signs, much like those described in the trumpet and bowl judgments of Revelation. Even if it does not make contact, as NASSA gives it a 1.3% probability, its ominous presence could still serve as a harbinger of divine wrath, much like past celestial events that have preceded major biblical events. However, we should pause to consider: while a 1.3% probability may seem low and suggest that asteroid 2024 YR4 is unlikely to hit Earth, why does NASA still consider it worthy of attention and rank it as a risk? Could NASA be withholding important information from the public? Scripture clearly describes stars falling from the heavens in the end times—and who could successfully oppose the Lord? Meanwhile, we see widespread messaging promoting Mars colonization as a way to escape future tribulations(Aerospace,2017). However, as prophetically stated in Obadiah 1:4, regarding the Day of the Lord, "Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down," declares the LORD. This ancient prophecy remarkably addresses modern attempts to establish settlements in space as a means of escape from divine judgements.
Concluding Thoughts
Regardless of whether these asteroids ultimately impact Earth, their presence in our cosmic neighborhood serves as a powerful reminder of human vulnerability and the need for spiritual preparedness. Jesus warned, "Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day your Lord is coming." (Matthew 24:42). In the face of uncertainty, the best course of action is not fear, but faith.
Some will argue that these alignments are mere coincidences, dismissing them as natural phenomena with no prophetic significance. However, biblical history reveals that God often speaks through signs in the heavens. Genesis 1:14 tells us: "Then God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night. They will serve as signs for seasons and for days and years.'". If the heavens are meant to serve as signs, should we not at least consider their possible prophetic meaning?
The discovery of asteroid 2024 YR4 adds another chapter to the growing narrative of celestial events aligning with biblical prophecy. The timing of both Apophis and asteroid 2024 YR4 is not coincidental but demonstrates God's sovereign authority over the universe. As Jesus warned, "When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift your heads, because your redemption is near." (Luke 21:28). The heavens are speaking - are we listening? While these celestial events may seem threatening, Christians have the blessed hope of protection through the Rapture. The heavens are speaking - are your robes washed in the blood of the Lamb?

The "Abomination of Desolation" Roman siege armies, approached the "holy place" Jerusalem in the spring of AD70. Christians were warned to flee when they saw them approach, as this was the firce that would desolate [destroy] the temple, the second temple. THESE buildings. Read synoptic passages of Mt24, Lk21 and Mk13 and compare scripture for scripture, which support each other and what i just told you. And stop believing the 16th century jesuit narratives of preterism and futurism, which were only intended to counter the narrative of the protestant reformation, that Rome was not the antichrist of Revelation 13. It would instead be some man in the past or future but not Rome in the present.
